DAC update, transformer update and rough bill of materials for parts

Small update to the DAC. Just some size and layout changes. Its size (and colour!) has been changed to be a little larger to accommodate all the electronics.

As the below picture shows, I included the footprint of all the parts that will be attached to the front and back panels which necessitated the slight size increase.

On to the transformer itself. Turns out that a custom-made transformer will cost $112.32 and will take 4 weeks to be made and longer to ship to me which is a big fat no. This caused me to chose to use this R-core transformer from ebay instead.

The 110V/220V input will still allow me to offer mostly international voltage selection. The upper voltage from the output assuming a 240V input will be 17.45V which the DiYinHK regulators can still handle with a breeze as the maximum input is 20V. Also, I have a bill of materials from mouser but my credit card is unfortunately disabled so I have to wait until it's re-enabled before I can restart the process. If anyone is curious, here is the BoM I've racked up so far for this DAC:

Keep in mind that this total does not include shipping prices, will increase due to the cost of the case and decrease if more parts are bought in bulk.

As for the switches, I ended up reverting back to the ONPOW switches for now as they are the only ones which make switches large enough for my spec. Here are five out of 6 of the options for colours available (taken from here). Personally, I like the white and blue!

  1. That is pretty awesome that Soekris was willing to mod the dac board to meet your specific usage needs and thus lower the cost by $130. Every bit of savings helps! Still like the blue switch best! :-)

    1. Oh no no, it's not nearly that awesome; I just got the DAM1021-2 which is $235 compared to the $300+ of the 1021-1!

    2. ..oh.. I was thinking each DAM1021 was $65 cheaper thus $130 less for the 2 that you would use for each unit.

    3. I had gotten the -02 grade boards because they was the only one available; I had planned to use the -01 boards for the final product once another production run was done, hence the $300 price estimate for one board. However, the -01 and -02 grades will be merged into one -12 grade which will have a price that's somewhere in the middle of the current boards which I'm guessing will be ~$270 for one and less when bought in bulk.

    1. There are plenty on diyaudio.com who have played with this board and who are happy with its performance too.
